For nearly 40 years, John has successfully defended health care providers and facilities against allegations of medical malpractice in Michigan. His honors include being listed as a “Best Lawyer in America” in the specialty of medical malpractice, and an AV peer rating by Martindale-Hubbell, Inc., which is the highest rating one can attain from this prestigious organization.

John has extensive experience defending obstetricians, nurse midwives, and OB nurses in birth trauma cases. In addition, he is highly experienced in representing psychiatrists and other mental health care providers in cases involving suicide, medication management, and monitoring and supervision. He has defended numerous cases in virtually all areas of medicine, including emergency medicine, orthopedics, neurosurgery, general and bariatric surgery, urology and internal medicine. His success in these fields has earned him a prestigious reputation in the state, with the courts, and among his peers and clients.

He has tried cases before judges and juries in Kalamazoo, Kent, Muskegon, Ottawa, and Van Buren Counties, as well as in federal court. Working closely with his clients, John carefully assesses each case to determine whether settlement or trial will achieve the best result. He has represented hundreds of physicians, nurses, physician assistants, certified nurse midwives, nurse practitioners, and hospitals from the point of claim filing, to pretrial settlement, to jury verdict and/or appeals as needed.

John regularly serves as a presenter for his clients: physicians, hospital staff, nurses, and health care industry associations, on a myriad of medical malpractice, professional care, and documentation issues.
