Overview

Christopher Reed is an associate attorney and practices in the Health Law Group in our Grand Rapids office. Christopher practices in all areas of health care law and represents hospitals, physicians, and other health care providers and suppliers in an array of health care legal matters.

His practice focuses on issues related to licensure, regulatory and criminal investigations, staff privileges, reimbursement, compliance, and practice management. He also advises clients on transactional matters that involve fraud and abuse laws like the Anti-Kickback Statute and the Stark Law.

Christopher is a member of the American Bar Association’s Health Law Section, the American Health Law Association, and the State Bar of Michigan’s Health Care Law Section, where he also serves on the Publications Committee. In addition, Christopher coaches the Michigan State University College of Law National Health Law Transactional Team.

Before joining Smith Haughey, Christopher worked for the Department of Justice’s Health Care Fraud Unit, where he was a member of the National Rapid Response Strike Force. In that role, Christopher experienced all phases of criminal health care fraud litigation, from investigation to appeal.

Christopher earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in humanities & interdisciplinary studies from Michigan State University. He went on to the University of Maryland Carey School of Law, where he captained three national health law competition teams and earned his Juris Doctorate in health care law & policy.

Christopher is an East Lansing native and enjoys hockey, golf, camping, and boating.
