Oostema, a shareholder with the law firm of Smith Haughey Rice & Roegge, has been selected as a 2010 “Leader in the Law” by Michigan Lawyers Weekly. This program recognizes 25 outstanding attorneys in Michigan’s legal community, which includes 40,000 practicing attorneys.
According to Michigan Lawyers Weekly, they select attorneys who “are astute, wise, knowledgeable and successful; exemplify the noble tradition of the legal profession; win cases and solve problems with the utmost integrity; inspire and lead others with their skills and character; are role models and mentors; and are passionate and aggressive on behalf of clients and the community.”
For over 25 years, Jack’s practice has focused primarily on representing lawyers in legal malpractice actions and on insurance coverage matters related to professional liability insurance. He has represented attorneys, law firms, and insurance carriers nationwide. He currently serves as National Coverage Counsel for a prominent professional liability carrier that writes coverage for lawyers in over 40 states. In addition to regularly representing many of the largest firms in the state, Jack has also represented the State Bar of Michigan in connection with litigation challenging the constitutionality of the Character & Fitness review process. Recently, as part of its 50-State Survey of Legal Malpractice Law, Jack authored the Michigan chapter on legal malpractice law published by the American Bar Association.
